ENCOUNTER WITH OLD FATHER

    Instead of building straw-thatched rucs such as the Achastans lived in, the strangers put up long structures of poles interwoven with twigs. These they then covered with mud and painted white. Most curious of all to Juan were the strange animals they brought from their world.
