Chapter VII

THE WHITE CURER

    One morning Old Father comes to Juan's village to invite everyone to a feast. All of the men are away burning brush, but before he leaves Juan's little sister is badly cut. Father Serra attends to the bleeding while sending for the mission doctor who comes quickly and so skillfully stitches the wound that it heals with only a trace of a scar.
